Hundreds gathered in G Udayagiri, Odisha, to bid farewell to 26-year-old Bhibas Nayak, who was killed near Hampi, Karnataka, in a horrific attack.
Who Was Bhibas Nayak?
- Nayak was described as an adventurer and travel enthusiast, frequently exploring new places whenever he had time off from work.
- He worked in the administrative department at St Stephen’s Hospital, Delhi.
- Academically, he held a BBA from Madras Christian College, Chennai, and a Master’s in Finance and Administration from the Bombay Stock Exchange Institute, Mumbai.
- His father, Bijay Kumar Nayak, is the sixteenth Moderator of the Church of North India (CNI) and Bishop of the Diocese of Agra, CNI.
The Tragic Incident
On March 6, Nayak was among a group of five tourists in Karnataka’s Koppal district when they were allegedly attacked by three construction workers under the influence of illegal substances.
- The three men in the group, including Nayak, were pushed into a canal.
- The two women, including an Israeli national, were gang-raped.
- Nayak’s body was found on March 9.
- All accused have been arrested, Karnataka Police confirmed.
Demands for Justice
- Nayak’s uncle, Ajay Nayak, who retrieved his body, said local police informed him that Nayak was killed while trying to protect the women from the attackers.
- His family and relatives are demanding a fair and impartial investigation.
