 Renowned Bollywood actor Deb Mukherjee, father of Brahmāstra director Ayan Mukerji, passed away at the age of 83 due to age-related ailments. A spokesperson from Dharma Productions confirmed the news on Friday.

Deb Mukherjee was 83 and reportedly breathed his last due to age-related ailments after being unwell for a few months.

A Legacy in Indian Cinema

Deb Mukherjee was a respected figure in the film industry, known for his memorable roles in classics like:

A member of the legendary Mukherjee-Samarth family, he was the son of Sashadhar Mukherjee, a pioneering producer and founder of Filmalaya Studios. His mother, Satidevi Mukherjee, was the sister of legendary actors Ashok Kumar, Anup Kumar, and Kishore Kumar.

Bollywood’s Connection to Deb Mukherjee

Deb Mukherjee’s family ties run deep in the industry:

  • His brother, Joy Mukherjee, was a popular Bollywood actor.
  • His other brother, Shomu Mukherjee, was a writer-director who married veteran actress Tanuja, making him the uncle of Kajol and Tanishaa Mukerji.
  • His daughter, Sunita, from his first marriage, is married to filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker (Lagaan, Jodhaa Akbar).

Final Rites & Tributes

His last rites will be held at Pawan Hans Crematorium, Juhu, on Friday evening. Bollywood stars including Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Hrithik Roshan, Kajol, Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, Rani Mukerji, and Sidharth Malhotra are expected to attend.
